Make a difference. Volunteer with us!

Fostering a strong relationship between our agency and our volunteers is something that is very important to us. We strive to offer all volunteers the opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills that are transferable towards their employment aspirations or everyday life. In order for effective contributions to be fostered all our volunteers receive training surrounding our agency policies and procedures as well as the issues and challenges of those living with, affected or at risk of HIV/AIDS.

Volunteers have key roles in various aspects of our agency’s work. They contribute to:

  • The delivery of programs and services;
  • Fundraising and grant writing;
  • Program development through various committees; and
  • Governance through the board of directors.

2016 June Callwood Award Recipient – ACW’s Red Ribbon Cafe

The Red Ribbon Café is a volunteer-led food program at the AIDS Committee of Windsor (ACW) that services those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. The Café’s lunch program started in 2010 with a goal of providing a hot meal and social opportunities to persons living with HIV/AIDS (PHAs) and their families. Lunch is provided every Thursday from 12:00pm to 1:30pm to PHA’s and volunteers free of charge, with a minimum cost of $3.00 for PHA family members, PHA caregivers, and ACW staff members.

In 2016  our very own Red Ribbon Café received the distinguished June Callwood Award for their commitment to volunteering and longstanding service to our community. Last year, our committed volunteers contributed over 2400 hours and served over 2000 nutritious and delicious meals. On behalf of the ACW, we thank our dedicated Red Ribbon Café volunteers for their service and for providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for those impacted by HIV/AIDS.
