The ACW provides presentations to various organizations and schools in our community on the topic of STIs with a primary focus on HIV/AIDS. The goal is to increase awareness in our community about HIV/AIDS and reduce the number of new infections. School presentations are done in partnership with staff of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and Teen Health Centre delivering the “Healthy Sexuality Curriculum” to grade 8 and 9 students in the Windsor-Essex County public schools. The team provides educational sessions to students on the following topics: STI Transmission, Risk Reduction and Prevention.
We also provide presentations to a range of organizations in the community on a request or solicited basis. Organizations include settlement agencies, at risk groups or communities, colleges and universities. Community education through presentations has reached thousands of adults and youth over the years. It is through these discussions that stereotypes and myths are broken down and true human understanding and compassion takes place, as well as factual information being exchanged regarding STIs and HIV/AIDS.
