A Taste for Life – Windsor-Essex

A Taste for Life, a one day annual fundraiser takes place on Wednesday May 1, 2019 at 10 restaurants across Windsor-Essex County! The concept is simple; folks in our community are asked to dine at a participating restaurant where 25% of the gross proceeds are donated directly to the AIDS Committee of Windsor.

This marks our second year participating in this national event. In 2018, over 400 people dined at local 5 restaurants to raise more than $2,600!! This year we’re hoping to get at least 1,000 people in Windsor and Essex County out to dine for hope made delicious.

What is A Taste for Life?

A Taste for Life began in Ottawa in 1999 when Bruce House, the ACW’s counterpart in the nation’s capital, and The Snowy Owl AIDS Foundation successfully collaborated with 10 local restaurants. Patrons were invited to spend a special evening in their favourite establishments and each restaurant agreed to donate a portion of the evening’s gross revenue from all food and bar sales, excluding taxes, to the charities. A Taste for Life is now nation-wide with 20+ participating cities and regions.

How do I support A Taste for Life?

It’s simple! Go out to eat at a Participating Restaurant on Wednesday, May 1, 2019! Bring your friends, family, coworkers, clients, or just treat yourself! Everyone is invited to dine out for a great cause.

All Taste Diners are also eligible to enter to win one of many raffle prizes simply by participating and eating out!

Won’t be in our area on May 1st? Find a restaurant in a partner community by visiting www.atasteforlife.org and see a full list of the over 20 participating communities across Canada!

What else can I do to support the event?

Follow us on social media, using the links below! Post with the hashtag #ATFL2019, and share our posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram! Help us get the word out!

Like the social media pages of the restaurants! They’ve generously agreed to participate in our event and we want to show our support all the ways we can.

What if I can’t make it out to eat that day?

No problem! You can make a direct donation to the campaign online, here! Full tax receipts are issued for all donations over $20! But, you will be missing out on a chance to win one of our many amazing raffle prizes.

We’re looking for Taste Greeters!

Our participating restaurants donate 25% of the evening’s sales to the AIDS Committee of Windsor. One big part of raising funds, is the donation envelopes that are distributed to diners for additional donations. Funds raised by diners account for about 50% of the total raised for the event, and the Restaurant Hosts are a huge part of that success.

Responsibilities – One big ask of our Restaurant Greeters is to promote your restaurant, and engage and encourage people to join you and dine out. Greeters do this by:

  • Promote your restaurant within your personal networks, encourage people to dine out on Wednesday, May 1st to support the restaurant, the organization, and your participation,
  • To be present on Wednesday, May 1, 2019;
  • To greet diners and let them know about A Taste for Life
  • Inform diners about the raffle prizes
  • Gently encouraging diners to donate, and speaking about the ACW
  • Greeters are also asked to collect the diner donation envelopes and deliver them to ACW that evening (or arrange an alternate method with the event coordinator).

Time Commitment – Restaurant Greeters are expected to attend one of the brief orientations prior to the event date, as well as are expected to be available for a dinner shift (approximately 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM), or a lunch shift (approximately 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM).

Our first year brining A Taste for Life to our community!

We had FIVE amazing participating restaurants in Windsor-Essex and Chatham!!

Armando’s Pizza (LaSalle), Bubi’s Awesome Eats, Downtown Pizza Co., Jack’s Gastropub in Kingsville, and Sons of Kent Brewery in Chatham.

THANKS to everyone – our restaurants, volunteers, sponsors, and donors for making our first year extremely successful!! Everyone had a great time! Over 400 diners attended in support of the ACW! We raised over $2,600 that all go to support our programs and services!!

We want to acknowledge the passing of Mark Boscariol, owner of several local restaurants including Downtown Pizza Company, one of the original participants. After last year, he called it one of “the most professionally run event” he’d ever been a part of. His support and passion for the community is truly missed.

Thank you to this year’s 2019 ATFL Sponsors!
